Some places serve food. This one serves eighty years of it.

Three generations. One flame. Ascend to the finest rooftop restaurant in Marrakech, hidden deep within the Bab Doukkala medina. For nearly eighty years, the family of Moulay Driss has kept the authentic soul of traditional Moroccan cuisine burning bright.

Welcome to the Medina

More than a meal, a reason to slow down.

Step off the vibrant streets of Bab Doukkala and ascend to our rooftop terrace, where time softens and the ancient medina stretches out below you. Here, amidst glowing amber lanterns and carved cedar, you'll understand why, for eighty years, Marrakech families have brought their guests to this table.

Le Vrai Traditionnel is not a culinary concept, it is a family keeping a promise since 1946. Every slow-cooked tagine that leaves our kitchen carries the legacy of Moulay Driss, our grandfather and founder. We cook exactly as he taught us: with patience, with pride, and with the belief that a single dish can hold the entire history of a country.

The Signatures

Tasting the best of Marrakech.

Seven plates we would still cook if the world forgot everything else. From what our guests call the best tagine in Marrakech to our hand-rolled Friday couscous, each dish is rooted in an oral recipe our grandfather perfected over decades in the medina.

Chicken Pastilla01

Chicken Pastilla

Layers of paper-thin warqa, saffron chicken, almonds, a dusting of cinnamon sugar. Sweet and savoury in one bite, like Morocco itself.

Lamb Tangia02

Lamb Tangia

Slow-cooked overnight in the embers of the medina's hammam fires, exactly as it has been done in Marrakech for centuries. Meltingly tender and deeply perfumed, the ultimate traditional Moroccan food.

Sweet Lemon Tajine03

Sweet Lemon Tajine

Candied lemon peel, honey, and warm spices meet fall-apart lamb. Widely reviewed as the best tagine in Marrakech, it is a dish that tastes of feast days and of coming home.

Rfissa04

Rfissa

Hand-torn msemen bathed in a broth of fenugreek, lentils and free-range chicken. The dish every Moroccan mother serves to heal, body and heart.

Royal Couscous05

Royal Couscous

Seven vegetables crowning hand-rolled semolina, lamb shank, and spiced broth. Built slowly, always on a Friday. For those seeking the best couscous in Marrakech, this is how it must be built.

Lamb Chops06

Lamb Chops

Seasoned only with salt, cumin and fire. Char on the outside, pink and silent in the middle. The simplest dish we make, and the hardest.

Jawhara Dessert07

Jawhara Dessert

Dates, walnuts, orange-blossom honey and a whisper of argan oil. Served on a brass tray with mint tea poured from height, always from height.

Our Story

Three Generations. One Flame. A Legacy Still Burning.

Take care of your family. Take care of the house. And may our food bring joy to families everywhere, the same way it brought joy to ours.

In 1946, Moulay Driss lit a modest fire in a Bab Doukkala stall. He had arrived in the Marrakech medina with roughened hands and his family's recipes. What he cooked was not just food, it was Morocco, held in a single bite. People came. And they kept coming. Today, his grandsons Youssef and Hamza tend that same flame.
